Exciting news, 21 people have shown interest in COETAIL (Certificate Of Educational Technology And Information Learning), and there are only 4 spaces available for the March 5, 2011 start date. COETAIL is a new, well received, university level program for using technology in the classroom. It is hosted through the State University of New York (SUNY) and the credits from this certificate can be used towards completing a masters degree. Below is an outline of the courses and the approximate timeline for their completion.
  1. Course 1 Information Literacy and Ourselves as Learners: March 5 – April 30, 2011
  2. Course 2 21st Century Literacy Ideas, Questions, and Issues: Fall 2011
  3. Course 3 Visual Literacy: Effective Communicators and Creators: Fall 2011
  4. Course 4 Technology: A Catalyst for Learning: Winter - Spring 2012
5. Course 5 Applied Web 2.0 Technology for Learning: Spring 2012 (The 5th course is a practical implementation course where educators have to implement a revised unit based on the program in their classroom. Timing would depend on the participant.)
All classes would be held during the school year with no expectation to do coursework during holidays. The courses build upon each other and use a cohort model of learning. Therefore, we ask that participants commit to all 5 courses to get the most out of the program. This COETAIL cohort will complete the program by June 2012.
Costs are dependent on the number of participants. Currently it is approximately USD$460 per course (for 5 courses, that would be approximately USD$2300).
The program involves both in-class and on-line participation. The in-class sessions will be hosted at the New International School of Thailand (NIST). The instructor will come to NIST at the beginning and end of each course and support the participants virtually for the 6-8 weeks in between.
